We pulled up the salon chair to chat with hairstylist and popular downtown Kenosha business owner Amanda Schafer, owner of Hush Beauty Lounge. We learn all about her start in the industry, the latest hair trends and the launch of Hush Beauty Lounge.
Q. How did you get your start in the hair industry?
Amanda: My friends and I were “kitchen beauticians” throughout high school, and I got hired at Sally Beauty Supply my senior year. It was my first look at the beauty industry and I was hooked. For the past 14 years, I have been a stylist.
Q. What inspired you to open up your own salon?
Amanda: I wanted to be my own boss.
Q. How long has Hush Beauty Salon been open?
Amanda: I started alone, in a salon suite, in October of 2021. We’ve been in our current location since February.
Q. How did you come up with the name Hush Beauty Lounge?
Amanda: The word hush makes me think of peace, relaxation, and calm. They were all things I was looking for when I came up with the name. I also had to keep my business plan “hush hush”, so the name stuck.
Q. Why did you choose Downtown for your salon?
Amanda: I love Downtown Kenosha! I lived in HarborPark for 7 years, so opening the salon felt like coming home. I’m so excited to be part of the community again!
Q. What is your role as the owner of Hush Beauty Lounge?
Amanda: We’re a collective of independent stylists, so the girls truly are their own bosses. My role is to maintain an inviting space that people look forward to visiting. My favorite part of this journey has been empowering other stylists to grow and prosper as business owners.
Q. How do you keep up on the latest trends in hair?
Amanda:Social media! The trends come to us nowadays.
Q. What can you tell us about your fantastic team of stylists?
Amanda: There’s four of us and they are incredibly talented! Everyday I’m blown away by the work they produce. They also bring the most amazing vibes to the salon!
Q. What services does Hush Beauty Lounge offer?
Amanda:We’re a full service salon specializing in hair extensions, color, cuts, eyelash extensions, and more.
Q. What hair products do you sell?
Amanda:We carry a selection of favorites from Morrocanoil, Pureology, Colorwow, Olaplex, and STMNT
Q. What is your favorite part about being a stylist?
Amanda:The wild stories I get to hear! I’ve heard it all, I swear. There’s never a dull moment.
Q. What makes Hush Beauty Lounge stand out from other salons?
Amanda: We’re a small salon, so we get to create a more personal experience. There isn’t the noise and chaos you might find in a larger salon, and we get to really focus on our clients and give them the best experience possible.

Amanda: Smashing Pumpkins for sure

Amanda: Mad Max: Fury Road, or Coneheads
Q. Worst hair trend of all time?
Amanda:The faux hawk! Ironically, I can cut a really good one lol
Q. Favorite restaurant?
Amanda: Buckley’s

Amanda: Giardiniera
